The National Honor Society will have its last regular meeting on Tuesday, May 22, after school, in room #2117. We will review the final arrangements for the field trip and the banquet the next day. Newly elected officers will have a short practice for the ceremony at the banquet. Project papers may also be turned in at this time. All members should plan to attend.
Permission slips for the field trip and reservation forms for the banquet are now available in room #2117. All members should stop by and pick them up at their convenience. Both forms must be returned by 3:35 on May 18.
Kids Alive Fest at Children’s Village ~ Saturday, May 19th

There will be a meeting on May 23 in the gym at 3:45 for anyone interested in playing volleyball next year.

Do you need someone your own age to talk to? Come talk to a Peer Helpers. They are always willing to listen and can tell you about other ways to get help if you need it. Everything is confidential!! - HCC conducts a campus tour every Friday morning at 10:00am and the last Thursday of each month at 5:30pm in the evening. Interested students should call 240-500-2238 to register for a tour.
Scholarships
- The Opportunity Fund is an institutional award that is renewable each semester. Applicants must contribute to student life through participation in HCC clubs/organizations or varsity athletics. Deadline is July 1.
- The ESSENCE Scholarship has a June 1 at 4:00pm deadline. The scholarship applications need to be turned into the Office of Institutional Advancement (third floor of the Learning Resource Center.) This is a need based scholarship.

Applications for Admission
- Students in the ESSENCE program do not need to submit another application for admission. Only new students need to submit the application.
- The HCC admissions application has no fee and is available on-line.
- After a student applies, we will send an acceptance letter along with a next steps letter. Please advise students to send us their transcripts. A final transcript will be needed for high school graduates.
Placement Assessment Testing
- A student is exempt from the reading and English placement assessment test if they have an SAT critical reading score of 550 or better, or an ACT verbal score of 21 or better, or if they have passed a college level English course.
- A student is exempt from the math placement assessment test if they have an SAT math score of 550 or better, or an ACT math score of 21 or better, or if they have passed a college level math course.
- Students may retake the placement assessment tests once in a two year period if they are not satisfied with their original score.
Registration
- Fall registration begins April 30. Fall classes begin August 27.
- Graduating seniors who need assistance with selecting classes may call 240-500-2530 or stop in to see an Academic Advisor on a walk-in basis. ESSENCE students cannot register online. ESSENCE students must call 240-500-2238 to schedule an appointment to register.
