School Delays & Closings
Washington County Public Schools has a very thorough school delay and closure process. Notifications are available on the WCPS website, through e-mail, text message, messages on the WCPS main phone line at 301-766-2800 and through local media. NOTE: Weather related delays and cancellations will be reported on the main phone line as soon as decisions are reached. If you hear the general greeting, there is nothing to report.
WCPS is now offering text messaging as an option for you to receive emergency communications. It's part of the AlertNow system WCPS now uses for voice and email messages communicating school delays, closings, early dismissals, other emergency situations, and a variety of system and school-related announcements. To sign up for AlertNow text messages:
- Visit www.alertnowsms.com
- Enter PIN number 820820
- On the SMS Opt-in page, enter information in the available fields. You can enter one or two cell phone numbers. You must agree to terms and conditions presented, which include acknowledgement that you as the message recipient are responsible for any charges incurred from your cellular provider for receiving WCPS text messages.
