The Future Starts Now: College & Career Planning Event on March 15 at South High

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 28, 2012) – For the first time, WCPS will host a college and career planning event designed for families of all students, kindergarten through grade 12, on Thursday, March 15, 2012, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at South Hagerstown High School. “The Future Starts Now: College and Career Planning for K – 12 Families,” will feature information sessions about applying to and choosing a college, financing a college education, college athletics and more.

Some sessions will be geared toward families of elementary and middle school students who are in the very early planning stages leading to college. Community business leaders will be available for career cluster conversations to provide information about future careers in areas like business and finance, health and biosciences, information technology, manufacturing and engineering, media and communication, consumer services, hospitality and tourism, and human resource services, among others.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is free. The schedule of workshops begins at 6:15 p.m. with 30-minute sessions scheduled at 6:55 p.m., 7:35 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.

Parents and students are invited to come and go as schedules permit. Take-home brochures, booklets and other college and career resources will be available. Attendees also have the opportunity to explore college and career information via computers that can be accessed during the event. Translation services will be available for French, Spanish and Romanian-speaking visitors. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening.
