Tech High Students Earn Honors at Regional SkillsUSA Competition

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 9, 2011) – Ten students from Washington County Technical High School finished in the top three in their events at the SkillsUSA Western Region Competition, receiving medals and earning the opportunity to participate in the state competition in March. The regional competition was held at the Frederick Career Technology Center on Saturday, February 5, 2011.

The following Tech High students were medal winners:

  • 1st - Cassandra Miller - Cosmetology
  • 1st - Kevin Sokol - Commercial Baking
  • 2nd - Brittany Tilden – Cosmetology
  • 2nd - Lauren Pincus - Commercial Baking
  • 2nd - Heather Fridley - Culinary Arts
  • 2nd - Kara Reece - Food and Beverage Service
  • 3rd - Grace Britner (w/model Shawnice Blowe) – Esthetics
  • 3rd - April Maloff (w/model Daniell Nasvaderani) - Nail Care
  • 3rd - Bitteria Jones and Catie Moore - Radio Audio

Tech High students who earned fourth or fifth place recognition included the following:

  • 4th – Dusty Summers – Automotive Refinishing
  • 4th – Destiny Martin, McKenzie Lansing and Matt Myers – Crime Scene Investigation
  • 4th – Ashley Shubert – Food and Beverage Service
  • 4th – Mark Sokol – Internetworking
  • 4th – Brianna Hartley (w/model Talia Holford) – Nail Care
  • 4th – Kristina Faith – Nurse Assisting
  • 4th – Darian Waple – Residential Wiring
  • 5th – Doug Norris, Jr. – Automotive Service Technician
  • 5th – Chris Feigley – Collision Repair
  • 5th – Jonathan Shank – Computer Maintenance Technician
  • 5th – Samantha Hendershot – Criminal Justice
  • 5th – Kayla Hott – Culinary Arts
  • 5th – Thomas Hott – Graphic Communications

A total of 40 Tech High students participated in the regional competition.

The state competition is March 25-26, 2011, at various locations in the Baltimore and Catonsville areas. SkillsUSA is an organization that serves high school and college students who are preparing for careers in skilled technical and service occupations.  The organization includes teachers and business professionals.
