WCPS Named a 2010 Best Community for Music Education
HAGERSTOWN, MD (June 9, 2010) – The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) has named the Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) one of the Best Communities for Music Education for 2010. WCPS is one of only three school systems in Maryland to attain such recognition, along with Baltimore County Public Schools and Harford County Public Schools. The honor is based on the quality of school-based music education programs in the community.
WCPS supervisor of fine arts, Rob Hovermale, says, “Our schools have always had a strong staff of music educators who bring out the best in many talented students. Combine that with support for the arts and music in Washington County and we are in the best possible position to provide a strong music program for our students and community.”
NAMM is a non-profit association founded in 1901 that has unified the global music products industry and increased active participation in music making. In its work with and support of business and education partners, NAAM’s continued aim is to increase and enhance opportunities, especially for young people, to experience the benefits of making music.
