WCPS Students Preparing for State GeoBee

HAGERSTOWN, MD (March 18, 2009) - Six school-level winners from the Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) are preparing for the State of Maryland GeoBee next month, with an opportunity to earn a trip to the National GeoBee, May 20 – 21, 2009, in Washington, DC, sponsored by National Geographic and hosted by long-time TV game show host, Alex Tribek. The Maryland GeoBee is on April 3, 2009, in Catonsville. WCPS participants will be:

  • Rami Yanes – Grade 8 – Boonsboro Middle School
  • Nathaniel Parchment – Grade 8 – Northern Middle School
  • Tymon Walker-Cameron – Grade 8 – Smithsburg Middle School
  • Nehemiah Teferi – Grade 7 – E.R. Hicks Middle School
  • Steven Hart – Grade 7 – Springfield Middle School
  • James Hebb – Grade 5 – Paramount Elementary School

The competition is open to students in fourth through eighth grades. Each school-level winner must pass a written test to qualify for the state competition.
