Ticket Prices to WCPS Sporting Events Reduced
HAGERSTOWN, MD (January 26, 2009) - The admission fee for adults to attend regular season varsity and sub-varsity sporting events in the Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) system has been reduced. The Washington County Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WCPSSAA) announces a new adult admission fee for regular season varsity events of $4, a reduction of $1, and an adult admission fee to multiple sub-varsity events (for example, a junior varsity and ninth grade doubleheader) of $3, a reduction of $2.
There is no change in the student admission fee of $2 or in the sub-varsity, single event adult admission fees of $3 for adults and $2 for students.
Ticket prices for district, regional and state playoff and championship events, and all county tournament events remain at $5 - $8 per person, depending on the venue.
Ed Masood, WCPS supervisor of athletics, said the timing for a change was right. “As families are forced to make tough choices because of the economy, we wanted to make the choice to support their children and our student athletes a little easier, and at the same time, promote attendance at WCPS sporting events.”
WCPS athletics has had stronger budget support over the last several years, as a result of decisions made to bolster athletics funding in the annual operating budget, which also helped to further support the reduction, Masood added.
The current practice involving free admission for the holders of WCPS senior citizen Gold Cards and WCPS employee ID badges is not affected.
