Smithsburg Middle's Hurricane Relief Effort

HAGERSTOWN, MD (October 11, 2005) – Representatives of the Smithsburg Middle School Student Council

presented a check for $2,431.60 to Cindy Blackstock of the American Red Cross today, to culminate a recent

hurricane relief fundraiser. Student Council members spearheaded a competition between grade levels and

staff, putting collection containers in the cafeteria each day during lunch shifts. Donations were counted

each day and recorded on thermometers in the cafeteria. The 8th grade produced the biggest contribution:

$942.69.
