Annual Elementary School Cross Country Run Saturday at Eastern

HAGERSTOWN, MD (October 5, 2007) – The 26th Annual Washington County Public Schools’ Elementary School Cross Country Run will be held Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Eastern Elementary School, for participants in 3rd through 5th grade. Check-in and registration is from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m., followed by the 3rd grade course walk. The 3rd grade girls’ and boys’ run will follow. The 4th grade walk and runs will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. and the 5th grade walk and runs at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Trophies will be awarded to 1st place finishers in each group, with 2nd through 30th place finishers receiving a ribbon and certificate. All other participants will receive participation certificates.

Participants started training for the event on September 6th with twice weekly after school practice sessions. Event director Rich Secrest, physical education teacher at Eastern Elementary, says, “The purpose of the event is to create interest in life long physical activity and encourage impressionable young children to make important physical activity choices.”
