HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 17, 2006) – An educational Candidates’ Forum for Washington County Board of Education candidates, prospective candidates, and anyone interested in learning about school board members’ roles and responsibilities has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at the Board of Education Auditorium, 820 Commonwealth Avenue, Hagerstown. Kathryn Blumsack, Director of Board Development from the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE) will facilitate. According to Ms. Blumsack, “MABE conducts these candidates forums throughout the state as a way to give prospective board members an understanding of the legal responsibilities of boards of education and the role of the board in governing the school system.” The forum is part of the current Board’s ongoing efforts to promote Board service. “The Board is sponsoring this forum in order to encourage participation in the election process for members and to provide information to those interested in possibly running for Board office,” said Edward Forrest, President of the Washington County Board of Education. The forum will be televised live on Antietam Cable Channel 99. Rebroadcasts are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15; Saturday, June 17; and Sunday, June 18.
