HAGERSTOWN, MD (April 6, 2006) – Washington County is well represented this week at the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC) Convention at the Clarion Resort Hotel in Ocean City. Thirty-seven delegates from Student Government Associations (SGA) at Boonsboro, Clear Spring, North Hagerstown, South Hagerstown and Williamsport High Schools, and Western Heights Middle School, along with their SGA advisors, are attending the 3-day convention, which concludes on Friday, April 7, 2006. Key members of the Washington County Association of Student Councils (WCASC) attending the convention are President Ben O’Kane (North High), Vice President Mike Dunham (South High), and Treasurer China Miller (South High).

WCASC Advisor Dr. Clyde Harrell is pleased with the county delegation attending the state convention. “We have many strong student leaders who have benefited from the MASC leadership training they’ve participated in this past year. These students have been instrumental in effecting positive change at their schools through student government activities.”

This year Matt Amalfitano, a junior at North Hagerstown High School, is a candidate for MASC president. Matt is involved in a number of leadership roles at North High, and serves on several WCPS school board committees.
