HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 15, 2006) – Fairview Outdoor Education Center’s Annual Heritage Day is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2006, featuring maple sugaring and tours of the historic Plumb Grove house. Fairview staff will welcome and encourage families to hike to the Fairview sugar bush, practice tapping a tree, see sap being boiled, and warm up at the campfire. Plumb Grove, the historic 1831 colonial farmhouse used in the movie, “Gods and Generals,” is next door, and will be open for tours. The house is fully furnished with local and Maryland-made antiques and is owned by the Clear Spring Historical Society. Breakfast and lunch items will be served at Plumb Grove from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The Sap To Syrup demonstration and children’s activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Fairview. There’s no admission charge and the crafts are free. To get to Fairview Outdoor Education Center, exit off of Interstate 70 at Clear Spring, Maryland. Go north into the town of Clear Spring on Route 68. Turn left on Route 40. Go west one block and turn right at the traffic light on to Martin Street. At the end of Martin Street turn right on to Broadfording Road and travel approximately 100 yards. Turn left on Draper Road. The entrance to Fairview Outdoor Education Center is about 1/3 mile from this intersection.
