HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 11, 2003) – A Screening Panel appointed by the Washington County Delegation will consider nomination applications for the vacant Board of Education seat in order to make recommendations to Governor Robert Ehrlich, Jr. Any interested citizen can receive a copy of the nomination application. Nomination applications are available by calling the Office of the Superintendent, Elizabeth Morgan, 301-766-2815, or by visiting that office at 820 Commonwealth Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21740, or by a mail inquiry to that office, ATTN: Screening Panel. All nomination applications must be received by Monday, February 24, 2003, with that postmark date, or hand-delivered to the Office of the Superintendent on that date. The seven members of the Screening Panel are Washington County Commissioner James Kercheval, Board of Education President Bernadette Wagner, Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce Member Phil Kelly, Citizens Advisory Council Chairman Gary Nally, Washington County Council PTA President Scott Nicewarner, and two former Board of Education members, Jan Cirincione and B. Marie Byers (Panel Chair). The panel plans to forward three recommended names to the Governor for his choice to appoint the person to fill the seventh seat on the Washington County Board of Education. The panel met on Monday, February 10, to determine the process. Application format, scheduling dates, and communication with the public were discussed. The full panel will review all applications. Selected personal interviews will be scheduled for March 12-14, 2003. The selected applicants will be notified by phone call and by letter. Three names will then be forwarded to the Governor within 45 days. Those three names will be announced. |
