Department Description

The Office of Secondary Mathematics supports the curriculum, assessment, staff and resources for the mathematics programs in grade 6 - 12. The WCPS Essential Curriculum in Mathematics aligns with the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum, Core Learning Goals and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards. Concept-based learning and problem solving are instructional strategies emphasized in the scope and sequence for all mathematics courses. Teacher-developed, county-wide formative benchmark assessments are administered each marking period to assess student understanding and preparation for the Maryland State Assessments. The Office of Secondary Mathematics also provides teacher resources and professional development opportunities throughout the school year and summer.
