Department Description

The Washington County Food & Nutrition Services program serves over 12,500 lunches and 7,500 breakfasts each day, and the primary mission of the program is to provide nutritious, quality foods at competitive prices. The program is designed to operate on a non-profit basis through financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, reimbursements from the state of Maryland, and receipts from sales in school cafeterias. The school food service department has 18 cooking kitchens where food is prepared and served, and 26 receiving kitchens that serve food provided by other kitchens in the system. The department believes that properly nourishing students maximizes their learning experiences.
