About Our Superintendent

The Washington County Board of Education, on May 3, 2011, announced Clayton M. Wilcox, Ed.D., as the next Washington County Public Schools superintendent, and Dr. Wilcox's tenure officially began on July 1, 2011. 

Dr. Wilcox previously filled the position of Senior Vice President for Education and Corporate Relations at Scholastic, Inc., and was a recognized leader in the effort to improve literacy and instruction across the nation. He is the former Superintendent of Schools in Pinellas County, Florida, where his leadership team opened new opportunities for career and technical education, honors, and Advanced Placement courses, in addition to expanding offerings in technical and fine arts. Dr. Wilcox was also the superintendent in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was the Director of Personnel Services and Executive Director of Personnel Services and Staff Development for St. John’s County Public Schools in Florida. He started his career in education as an elementary instructor in Waterloo, Iowa, where he later became a middle school science teacher, assistant principal and principal.
